The Pitching Mechanics of Jonathan Papelbon

Jonathan Papelbon has been an instant success since he came from Mississippi State. Since 2005 he has averaged 38 saves per year. He has also maintained a 4.5/1 strikeout-to-walk ratio. This clearly shows that he knows his stuff and is not afraid to challenge the competition. Although Papelbon was slated to be a started early in his career, minor shoulder injuries told the Red Sox that he might serve them better as a closer and he hasn’t disappointed.

One thing you will notice across the board with most Major League pitchers is the apparent smoothness of their pitching mechanics. You can tell the work they have put in, combining that with their God-given talent and the result is a mechanical approach that is smooth and powerful. Papelbon is no exception.

Notice his steady accelerating tempo all the way through the delivery that culminates in his release of the ball. Also notice the relatively unorthodox path of his lead leg and foot. His foot stays out in front as his lead leg is extended and then it comes around in the direction of the target. Most instructors will not teach a kid to do this because it goes against the common perception of everything staying on line to the target. Although Papelbon does “swing the gate open” with his lead leg, he most certainly gets it where it needs to be in the end.

Do you want to improve your pitching mechanics?

Do you want to increase pitching velocity?

Do you want to perfect your pitching technique?

If you want to become a better baseball pitcher there is no better way than to study the best. Here you will find the best baseball pitching clips on the internet. And these are real pitching clips, not something shot from the nosebleeds section of the stands in what seems like a tornado. These are the best pitchers in the game.

There are different ways we can learn how to be a better pitcher. First, you should read and gather as much good information about the position as you can. The first step in understanding baseball pitching basics is to increase your knowledge by gathering this information.

The next step is actually taking that information and putting it into action through hard work in practice. But sometimes taking the information that we read and trying to implement it into how our body moves can be difficult. Sometimes we need something extra so that it “clicks” and we get it.

Watching good pitching clips of successful Major League Baseball pitchers is the best way to supplement your knowledge of pitching and gives you a visual of what the correct way of pitching looks like.

Study these clips over and over. Watch and look for the similarities the pitchers have in the clips. Watch and look for the differences the pitchers have.

If you want to be the best, you have to study the best. Good luck.
